[ARCHIVED] Dec. 10, 10 a.m. Update - Road Conditions Improve, Many Remain Without Power

Snow on trees 2018

Road conditions throughout the County have improved since last night. Bridges and overpasses have been treated and plowed by VDOT. They are clear and passable at this time and should remain so, as long as temperatures remain above freezing.

Delayed Openings and Cancellations

  • County Offices, the Recreation Center, convenience centers and courts opened at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 10.
  • Libraries will open at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 10.
  • All parks remain closed except for Warhill, Chickahominy Riverfront Park and the James City County Marina.
  • Curbside recycling for Dec. 10 has been canceled. All collections for the week will be pushed back one day.
  • The James City County Adult Services unit’s Holiday Breakfast for Seniors originally scheduled for Dec. 10 has been canceled. No decision has been made yet on rescheduling.

Power Outages

As of 10 a.m. Dec. 10, approximately 6,337 Dominion Energy customers in the County are without power. Be sure to report outages by calling 866-366-4357 or going to…/report-and-check-outages.

Need Heat?

  • Anyone needing heat or showers can go to the Recreation Center (5301 Longhill Road) between 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
  • Heat is also available at the libraries (7770 Croaker Road and 515 Scotland Street) between 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
  • Stay at least 30 feet away from downed lines - consider them energized and dangerous. Report downed power lines to Dominion at 866-366-4357.
  • Use a flashlight; candles can cause a fire.
  • Check on neighbors.
  • Avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Only use generators and grills outdoors and away from windows. Never heat your home with a gas stovetop or oven.

Additional information will be posted on the County’s website, Facebook and Twitter as it becomes available.
