[ARCHIVED] Jamestown Beach Event Park reopens Memorial Day weekend

James City County’s Jamestown Beach Event Park reopens on Sat., May 23, following several months of Park upgrades. In addition to the upgrades, the Park’s name also changed to better reflect future uses for the park.

Upgrades in the Park include a second entrance, located off Jamestown Road across the street from Jamestown Settlement’s main parking lot. For now, visitors requiring accessible parking must use the ferry entrance, Entrance #1, until site work is completed in about two weeks. Improvements also include an observation pier, a designated fishing area (a freshwater license is required), a building with restrooms and concessions, a launch area for paddle craft, an American with Disabilities Act accessible walkway including a beach mat to make water access easier, additional parking and outdoor rinse stations.

The beachfront park package includes sun, sand and spectacular views of the James River! Also featured are shaded picnic areas with picnic tables and charcoal grills. Guests may bring their own propane grill or use one of the Park’s charcoal grills. The beachfront park is dog-friendly too and leash requirements are posted onsite. Camping is not available, but the Park is minutes from Chickahominy Riverfront Park, 1350 John Tyler Hwy., where camping is accommodated. The Park is also within eight miles of Busch Gardens, Colonial Williamsburg and Water Country USA.

The Park, located at 2205 Jamestown Rd., is open daily 8 a.m. until sunset. Concessions open daily at 11 a.m. offering cold drinks, bags of ice, snacks and ice cream.
