James City County is pleased to announce that the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation received matching grant funds from the Virginia Tourism Corporation’s (VTC) Marketing Leverage Program (MLP). The grant is for $5,000 and utilized James City County, Henrico County and Richmond Region Tourism as partners to create a weekend getaway campaign focused on the Virginia Capital Trail.

“We are thrilled to receive this opportunity to market the Virginia Capital Trail as an ideal weekend getaway,” said Cat Anthony, Executive Director of the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation. “With so many great attractions like Billsburg Brewery and Historic Jamestowne near the beginning of the trail at Jamestown, we know people will be surprised by the fun they can have in a weekend.”

The Virginia Capital Trail is approximately 51.7 miles and travels through four jurisdictions (City of Richmond, Henrico County, Charles City County and James City County). The completed trail opened in Oct. 2015.

The MLP grant funding is designed to help local and regional tourism entities attract more visitors by leveraging limited local marketing dollars through a local match of state grants funds. A minimum of three Virginia entities must partner financially to apply for a grant. Partners may consist of Virginia cities, towns, counties, convention and visitors bureaus, chambers of commerce, other local or regional destination marketing organizations, private businesses, museums, attractions, cultural events, and other tourism-related businesses.
