[ARCHIVED] Williamsburg National Golf Club Wins Clean Business Award

Award Presentation

The Williamsburg National Golf Club was awarded the 2019 1st Quarter Clean Business Award by the James City Clean County Commission for their environmental stewardship efforts. The golf facility located at 3700 Centerville Road in Williamsburg recycles approximately 250 lbs of aluminum, 450 lbs of glass, 500 lbs of paper, 400 lbs of plastic and 400 lbs of cardboard every month. According to Grant Smith, Operations Manager, the landscape team incorporates native plants, mulching and flower beds into their landscape techniques to allow for proper water absorption and minimization of storm runoff. Other innovative enhancements include clean energy solutions such as LED lighting throughout the facility and the use of recycled products where possible. Best management practices are used in buffer areas around streams. Spot spraying and slow release chemicals are implemented to ensure that landscaping applications are not harmful to the environment.

The James City Clean County Commission is responsible for selecting and awarding the Clean Business Award on a quarterly basis at the Virginia Peninsula Clean Business Forum, which consists of Hampton, Newport News, York County and James City County and is hosted by each on a rotating basis.
