[ARCHIVED] Update - New Dates Available - Fire and Police to Offer Active Shooter and Stop the Bleed Training

James City County’s Fire and Police Departments are hosting a CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) training session followed by a Stop the Bleed training session on the following Saturdays from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.:

Oct. 5 at the Law Enforcement Center, 4600 Opportunity Way.

Nov. 16 at Fire Administration, 5077 John Tyler Highway

There is no charge for attendance and the courses are available to anyone age 14 or older.

CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. CRASE was designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004.

Stop the Bleed provides strategies, guidance and practical skills to handle a trauma related bleeding situation from an active shooter or everyday life. Stop the Bleed was created after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December 2012.

Each course can be modified for a business or organization to meet their needs as well and can be delivered anywhere and delivered upon request. For more information or to register, call Assistant Fire Marshal Michelle Toutaint at 757-565-7607.
