[ARCHIVED] Release #1 - 9 a.m. Sept. 5 Hurricane Dorian Expected to Bring Rain and Wind to the Area


County officials continue to monitor Hurricane Dorian and making needed preparations.

James City County is under a Tropical Storm Warning and a Storm Surge Warning. A Tropical Storm Warning means tropical storm-force winds are expected somewhere within this area within the next 36 hours. A Storm Surge Warning means there is a danger of life-threatening inundation, from rising water moving inland from the coastline, somewhere within this area within the next 36 hours,

What You Can Do Now
1. Sign up for to receive important information from County officials during an emergency.

2. Take measures to protect your property now. Bring loose, lightweight objects inside that could become projectiles in high winds (e.g., patio furniture, garbage cans) and anchor objects that would be unsafe to bring inside (e.g., propane tanks) tonight before the rain arrives tomorrow.

3. Make sure drainage ways near homes and businesses are clear of leaves and debris so that nothing impedes the flow of runoff.
