Did you know that Virginia is the largest producer of fresh, farm-raised oysters on the East Coast?

Whether you prefer your oysters raw or cooked, find some options for oysters in James City County.

  • 501 Bar and Grill often has oyster specials on their menu.
  • Captain George’s Seafood Restaurant – Buffet includes fried oysters, Oysters Rockefeller and raw oysters as available
  • Carino’s Seafood
  • Corner Pocket – Crab and bacon oysters
  • The Gabriel Archer Tavern at the Williamsburg Winery serves up a Chesapeake Bay bloody mary that features a local oyster for those 21 years of age and older.
  • Skrimp Shack in James City County sometimes has oyster options as specials! Make sure to check the menu board when you visit them.

Did you know that the Williamsburg Winery has a Wine & Brine Lounge in its lunch restaurant, the Gabriel Archer Tavern? Every Saturday and Sunday, they feature a new Virginia oyster and inviting the local watermen to join guests at the farm to shuck, serve and share their story. This occurs from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sundays.

If you want to celebrate Oyster Month at home, you can purchase oysters from specialty sections of grocery stores such as Fresh Market or Harris Teeter at Lightfoot Marketplace or a locally owned market like Carino’s Seafood on Ironbound Road or Uncle Russ’ Dockside Seafood Market off of Olde Towne Road. Uncle Russ will steam your oysters if you call ahead.
