[ARCHIVED] 6th Annual Litter and Recycling Expo

To celebrate “America Recycles Day,” the James City Clean County Commission is hosting the 6th Annual Litter and Recycling Expo on Saturday, Nov. 9. Join us by taking part in this community effort and help us reduce what goes to the landfill by bringing those hard to recycle items to the Jolly Pond Convenience Center, located at 1204 Jolly Pond Road, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. With the help of our community partners, we will take all kinds of items for free:

  • Coastal Virginia Environmental Coatings will be accepting latex paints for recycling
  • ReStore will take all of your used furniture, appliances, tools and other household goods
  • Gone4Good Shred will offer paper shredding services
  • Residential tire amnesty for any tires you no longer need

But that’s not all you can bring to the Expo! Additional items accepted at the Jolly Pond Convenience Center for recycling include 20 pound propane tanks, aluminum cans, pie pans and foil, antifreeze, cardboard, electronics, glass bottles and jars, kitchen grease, metal cans/lids, mixed paper, motor oil, plastic bottles, plastic bags, rechargeable batteries, scrap metal and yard debris.

And to top it off, learn how to recycle kitchen scraps into high-quality gardening compost.  A free composting workshop will be held at 11 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. A limited number of seats are available so register online today at or call 757-565-0032 for more information. The workshop will be held in the Solid Waste & Recycling Office located at 1204 Jolly Pond Road.
