[ARCHIVED] Community Discussion on Metal Detecting in James City County Parks

News Flash_Metal Detecting in County Parks

James City County Parks & Recreation will hold a public discussion on the County’s Metal Detecting Policy, following the recent ordinance change regarding metal detecting in County parks. The meeting is set for Thursday, Feb. 6, 6-8 p.m. at the James City County Recreation Center, 5301 Longhill Road. All are welcome to attend, and input is encouraged from the historical and archaeological community as well as from those who participate in metal detecting.

Meeting participants will get an overview of the recent changes, have an opportunity to review and comment on the County’s existing metal detecting policies and procedures, and to assist staff in balancing recreational opportunities while protecting and maintaining the historically, archaeologically and environmentally sensitive areas that exist within our 1,500 acres of park land.

If you’re unable to attend the meeting but would like to provide input, please contact us: parks.rec@jamescitycountyva.gov or James City County Parks & Recreation, 5320 Palmer Lane, Suite 2A, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
