On May 24 at approximately 5:15 p.m., James City County Police and Fire Departments were called to the area of Diascund Creek Reservoir to an unmanned boat. James Jackson, Jr., a 70-year-old James City County resident who had been out fishing, was identified as missing from the boat. The Departments began a search with assistance from York Fire & Life Safety and Sheriff’s Office, VA Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and Med-flight. The search was suspended at 8 p.m.
JCC Police and Fire Departments resumed the search on May 25 at approximately 8 a.m. with assistance from New Kent Sheriff’s Office and Marine Sonic. Jackson’s body was recovered at approximately 11:25 a.m. today and is being transported to the Tidewater Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
Jackson was not wearing a life jacket.
