[ARCHIVED] Police Respond to Fatal Traffic Crash

On Oct. 28 at approximately 6:54 a.m., officers responded to a crash involving a Kawasaki motorcycle and a Chevrolet work truck in the intersection of Olde Stage Road (Route 30) and Barnes Road. The truck was traveling west on Olde Stage Road and was making a left turn onto Barnes Road when it turned in front of the motorcycle, which was traveling east on Olde Stage Road. The motorcycle struck the rear of the work truck and caught on fire.

The driver of the motorcycle was identified as Tyler Scott Hybiak, a 22-year-old New Kent resident, and was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was wearing a helmet. The passenger on the motorcycle, McKenzy J. Meade, a 20-year-old New Kent resident, was reportedly not wearing a helmet. She was transported to VCU Medical Center where she died.

There were no other injuries.

The driver of the truck, Hernando Velasquez, a 57-year-old JCC resident, has been charged with failure to yield.

The crash remains under investigation.
