On Oct. 30 at approximately 1:41 a.m., officers were dispatched to the playground in Pocahontas Square in the 1900 block of Algonquin Trail in reference to a gun shot victim. Upon arrival, officers located a male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The male was identified as Carlos Fermir Vanegas-Escobar, a 17-year-old James City County resident who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe that the shooting occurred sometime between 12:20 and 1:30 a.m.
The decedent was transported to the Tidewater Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
This case remains under investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
