[ARCHIVED] Police Officer Firearm Safety Courses

Firearm Safety Class sized for web.jpg

James City County Police Department is offering free firearm safety courses to the public in the coming months. Each one-session class will cover basic safety, handling, storage and laws related to carrying a concealed handgun in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The course does not include hands-on training, and personal firearms should be left at home in a secure location.

All courses will be held at the Law Enforcement Center at 4600 Opportunity Way, 9-11:30 a.m.

Participants will be required to wear a mask or cloth face covering (over their nose and mouth) at all times during the course. Participants will also be required to maintain social distancing from those not in the same household.

Pre-registration is required and must be completed online. Due to the Governor’s Executive Order, class sizes are very limited.

Dates of the one-session classes follow:

  • Feb. 27
  • March 13
  • March 20
  • April 17

Project ChildSafe provides free gunlocks that will be available to participants.
