Sergeant Thomas Johnson has been promoted to Lieutenant. Lt. Johnson was hired by JCCPD in February 2002. He was previously employed with the Norfolk State University Police Department as a police officer. He has served JCCPD as a Police Officer, Field Training Officer, General Instructor, SWAT Operator, Police Motorcycle Operator, Patrol Sergeant, Traffic Unit Sergeant, School Resource Unit Sergeant and Criminal Investigations Unit Sergeant. During his 19 years of service, he has received numerous awards, including the Police Medal of Honor, Lifesaving Award, Meritorious Service Award, Officer of the Year, Investigative Services Award, and SWAT Operator of the Year. He attended the Leadership Institute at Christopher Newport University and Saint Leo University.
Lt. Johnson’s promotion is effective Sept. 16.
