On Dec. 7 at approximately 5:40 p.m., James City County Police and Fire Departments responded to a traffic crash involving a pedestrian in the 6400 block of Centerville Road. The preliminary investigation would reveal that the 68-year-old victim, William Thomas Holland, Jr. of James City County, was wearing dark colored clothing while walking partially in the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle.
Mr. Holland was first struck by a 1997 Chevrolet SUV being driven by a 70-year-old James City County resident. It is believed that Mr. Holland was subsequently struck by a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 41-year-old James City County resident. Neither driver reported seeing Mr. Holland in the roadway.
Mr. Holland was transported by medics to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
There are sidewalks in the area where Mr. Holland was struck; however, he was not utilizing them.
No other injuries were reported.
Centerville Road was closed for approximately 3 hours while the investigation took place.
The crash remains under investigation; however, no charges related to the crash are expected.
