Parks & Recreation invites you to a spring and summer of fun – we’ve got over 70 summer camp offerings for the kids, almost 20 special events designed to connect and cultivate community and hundreds of family programs and outings, classes and activities. Copies of the brochure can be downloaded online or picked up at the James City County Recreation Center, the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, the Satellite Services Office in Toano, the Freedom Park Interpretive Center, County parks, all public County government offices and the James City County and Williamsburg libraries. This annual event showcases the Virginia Capital Trail, a 51.7 mile multiuse trail which connects all of Virginia’s capitals – Jamestown, Williamsburg and Richmond. Presented by Dominion Energy, this year’s event will be held May 6-7 with post-ride Party Zones at Chickahominy Riverfront Park in James City County (May 6) and Dorey Park in Henrico County (May 7). Included in the registration fee are an official Cap2Cap T-shirt, lunch and beverage ticket at Party Zone, rest stops with snacks & water, ride support (along the Trail), water bottle, one raffle entry and a cheering squad on your ride day! A series of skirmishes occurred in the woods and meadows of Freedom Park between units of Lord Cornwallis and those of the French General, Marquis de Lafayette. Immediately following the Spencer’s Ordinary wreath ceremony, enjoy a presentation on the history of the battle in the Freedom Park Interpretive Center.
