small business grants

James City County is pleased to announce the creation of the COVID-19 Small Business Relief Fund. This grant program is made possible through Community Development Block Grant funding from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.  State funding enables James City County to offer financial relief to qualifying small businesses negatively affected by COVID-19.

The COVID-19 Small Business Relief Fund is a reimbursement grant. Qualifying businesses (20 full-time equivalent employees or less) can apply to be reimbursed for rent or mortgage payments, and in some cases utility payments. Grant requests are limited to a maximum of 6 consecutive months of payments, not to exceed a total grant request of $15,000. Eligible expenses must have been for the period between March 13, 2020 and June 30, 2022. Documentation must be provided to confirm payments were made; grant funds are for reimbursement only.

A complete list of eligibility requirements, program overview (Program Design) and an online application can be found at https://www.yesjamescitycountyva.com/3803

Grant applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Only complete applications will be considered. A total of $700,000 was received from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development; while limited, the County is pleased to offer financial support to as many businesses as possible.
