We've Got Summer Camps!

James City County Parks & Recreation has it all - outdoor adventures, arts and pottery, sports, cooking, science and language, camps for youth with disabilities, just to name a few! Full day to half day options all summer long. Camps are listed by week, then age and then camp date. Registration information appears at the end of the camp listing. Register now…camps are filling quickly!

Week of July 11

Virginia Legacy Recreational Soccer Camp • Ages 5-13
Monday-Friday, July 11-15, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., $210
Lois Hornsby Middle School
Revolving around soccer-related games, activities, trainings and competitions, this camp includes instruction on the fundamentals of soccer and is designed to meet the needs of beginner, developmental, recreational and advanced soccer players. All participants receive a Legacy Camp shirt and free soccer ball! Instructor: Virginia Legacy.  
  
All Star Football Clinic • Ages 8-13 FREE!
Thursday-Friday, July 14-15, 9 a.m.-noon
Wanner Stadium
Want to learn skills from former college football players? Join us for this hands-on/no pads camp to learn tackling, blocking, passing and other skills to be successful. Former WJCC athletes and local high school coaches will get you ready for tryouts! Lunch provided. 
  
Youth Running Camp • Ages 8-13
Tuesday-Friday, July 12-15, 9-11 a.m., $70
Greensprings Interpretive Trail
Your child will enjoy this summer running camp led by Greater Williamsburg Distance Running Club on the Greensprings Interpretive Trail. They’ll learn the basics of healthy running, build endurance, speed, agility and motivation. The purpose of this camp is to help youth learn that running can be fun and allow for a healthy and happy lifestyle. Bring water, a beach towel and wear appropriate running attire. Athletic shoes required. 
  
What’s Your Story? • Ages 10-13
Monday-Friday, July 11-15, 9 a.m.-noon $125
James City County Recreation Center
Have you been waiting for someone to ask what you’re about or what you really think? Participants will take turns sharing and writing about things felt, wondered, observed, and experienced. Camp will borrow from creative writing techniques and journalism. Gain experience sharing your writing, offering and receiving constructive feedback, and use reader’s suggestions to improve your writing. Weather permitting, we’ll get a little outdoor inspiration. All writing levels welcome. Bring a notebook, pen or pencil, and a snack. Instructor: Beth Shamaiengar.  

Week of July 18

Nature in Your Backyard • Ages 6-9
Monday-Thursday, July 18-21, 8:30 a.m.-noon, $85
Freedom Park
Learn about the plants and animals in your backyard! We’ll explore a different aspect of nature each day, create our own field guide and make our own trail mix! Parks & Recreation staff and the Virginia Master Naturalists will lead participants on nature walks and other fun-filled activities. The camp will be active and participants will spend most of the time outdoors. Please bring sunscreen and water. Snack provided. 
  
Week of July 25

Mighty Girls Yoga! Camp • Ages 7-10
Monday-Thursday, July 25-28, 9 a.m.-noon, $95
Freedom Park
The focus of the Mighty Girls Yoga Camp is to help increase self-confidence while learning to grow in peace as you build strength and resilience from the inside out. We’ll learn the physical, mental and social benefits of yoga and mindfulness practices within a safe, fun, cooperative environment while exploring the beautiful outdoors of Freedom Park. Discover your strengths through journaling, nature walks, yoga games and art activities. We’ll collaborate on becoming agents of peace within the community and leaders in our lives. Fancy Foods Camp • Ages 7-13
Monday-Thursday, July 25-28, 1-4 p.m. $125
James City County Recreation Center
Come make fancy desserts and treats! We’ll make and decorate Petit Fours, Tiramisu (kid friendly style), Fruit Tartlets and other tasty desserts that are fun for entertaining! Please note any allergies at the time of registration. Bring an apron and a small snack each day. Instructor: The Williamsburg Chocolatier, Inc.

Week of August 1

Hip Hop Dance/Cheer Camp • Ages 6-12
Monday-Friday, Aug. 1-5, 9 a.m.-noon, $125
Lois Hornsby Middle School
Focus on fun cheers and modern hip hop movements with a vivacious urban feel. The hip hop portion of the camp will focus on musicality, finding the count and rhythm of the music and dance skills within a team. Different styles of hip-hop dance will be combined with fun choreography. The cheer portion of the class will teach various dance and cheer combinations, basic stunts and fun choreography. Along with these skills, participants will receive daily take home activities that build teamwork, confidence and leadership skills. On the last day, we’ll perform to showcase all that our participants have learned! Instructor: Athlete’s Global.

AG Basketball & Speed Training Camp • Ages 6-12
Monday-Friday, Aug. 8-12, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., $190
Lois Hornsby Middle School
We’ll focus on shooting mechanics, one on one defense, scoring, ball handling, passing, mental preparation, fitness, conditioning, speed, agility training and more. A key objective in our academy is to create an intense and fun atmosphere that will enable campers to increase their basketball skills, maximize performance and achieve peak condition. An exciting part of our academy is the implementation of nutritional education, personal development, mentoring activities in decision making, leadership, communication skills, self-image and team building with others. Instructor: Athletes Global.

Outdoor Experience with JRA • Ages 10-14
Monday-Friday, Aug. 8-12, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., $200
James River Association Education Center
Experience a week of outdoor adventure and education. Campers will canoe Powhatan Creek, learn about and perform seine netting and water quality testing, and participate in fun environmental games about the James River and its watershed. Instructor: James River Association. 
  
Week of August 15 

Kidz-R-Cookin’ Around the World • Ages 5-8
Monday-Thursday, Aug. 15-18, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., $165
James City County Recreation Center
Cooking, music and arts and crafts from around the globe will all come together in this very special hands-on cooking camp. Each day will be a different culinary adventure! Explore culture, food and tradition, with new countries and recipes this year. Certificates and recipes included! Please note any food allergies during registration. Please bring lunch and/or heavy snack daily. Instructor: Chef Wendy, Kidz-R-Cookin’.

Spa Essentials for Kidz • Ages 9-12
Monday-Thursday, Aug. 15-18, 2-5 p.m., $165
James City County Recreation Center
Using only natural and wholesome ingredients, campers can make their own products (body butters, soy candles, bath bombs, bubble bath, shampoo and more). Learn about the properties of all ingredients used. All products labeled and packaged for home. Bring lunch and/or heavy snack daily. Instructor: Chef Wendy, Kidz-R-Cookin’.

Monday-Saturday, Aug. 15-20, Times TBA, $200
Chickahominy Riverfront Park
Rowers will learn the basics of the boats, rowing technique and navigation leading to a Camp Regatta on Saturday. This is great preparation if rowers are interested in continuing the sport in the fall season. Rowers should be able to swim. Program cost is $200, with 50% applicable towards rowing membership with the Williamsburg Boat Club.

End of Summer Bash • Ages 4-9
Monday-Friday, Aug. 22-25, 9 a.m.-noon, $100
James City County Recreation Center
Let’s go out with a bang! Celebrate all things summer as we sculpt summery treats, create tropical works of art and more! We’ll even make a beach scene out of real candy! This is one artsy party you won’t want to miss. Instructor: Kidcreate Studio.

Holiday Closures: 
The James City County Recreation Center and the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center are closed Monday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. 
All County parks, including the Stores/Offices within the parks, are open.
