[ARCHIVED] Courthouse Illuminated Green for Veterans During “Operation Green Light"

Williamsburg James City County Courthouse Illuminated Green

The James City County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution for the Williamsburg/James City County Courthouse to be illuminated green Nov. 7-13 as part of  Operation Green Light, a new initiative between James City County and the Virginia Association of Counties, the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers.

Operation Green Light’s mission is to show support for veterans of all military conflicts, as well as raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by many veterans (and their families) and the resources that are available at the county, state, and federal level to assist veterans and their families.

Approximately 200,000 service members transition to civilian communities annually, and given our proximity to many military facilities, James City County is home to many veterans. The County seeks to honor all these individuals who have paid the high price for freedom by placing themselves in harm’s way for the good of all.

Citizens are encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb in their house to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends. By shining a green light, we are letting our veterans know that they are seen, appreciated and supported.

While this event is focused around the week of Veterans Day (Nov. 7-13), participants are encouraged to continue shining the light year-round. Participants are encouraged to share their participation on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.

Visit naco.org/operationgreenlight for more information and links to resources available to veterans.
