[ARCHIVED] Off-Duty Police Officer Injured in Shooting Incident

James City County Virginia

In the early hours of Jan. 25, two off-duty James City County Police officers were involved in an incident in the City of Williamsburg that resulted in one of the off-duty officers being shot multiple times. The victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The City of Williamsburg Police Department is actively investigating the incident, and Michael Trenton Rusk has been arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and discharging a firearm within City limits. Mr. Rusk has been placed on unpaid administrative leave from James City County pending the outcome of the investigation.

At this time, our focus and concern is supporting the affected families and the members of the James City County Police Department who have been shaken by this unfortunate incident.
