[ARCHIVED] National Vietnam War Veterans Day

VetFlash_1

Join us for a celebration of National Vietnam War Veterans Day on Wednesday, March 29 at 1 p.m. at Veterans Park*, 3793 Ironbound Road. First observed in 2012 as a one-time event, National Vietnam War Veterans Day was designated an annual event by the Vietnam War Recognition Act of 2017 to honor the men and women who served and sacrificed in this conflict.

Come help us recognize the service of our Vietnam Veterans and their families and give them the welcome home they were denied so long ago. Guest speaker for this year’s ceremony is former Regent of Williamsburg Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Maj. Gen Celia Adolphi, US Army (Ret.) The General will be presented by James City County Board of Supervisors member Jim Icenhour, a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Air Force.

Veterans will be presented with Congressional Certificates of Recognition as well as Vietnam Veteran 50 Year Anniversary lapel pins. Spouses of deceased Vietnam Veterans will receive the Surviving Spouse lapel pin and the USA Vietnam War Commemoration “Certificate of Honor.”  To ensure advance preparation of the Certificates, Vietnam-era Veterans who plan to attend the ceremony should contact Tom Monahan, President of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) Chapter 957 either by email at ELMSeabee@aol.com or text to 757-293-8892. The deadline to request a certificate is Monday, March 27 by 5 p.m.

The ceremony is co-sponsored by the VVA Chapter 957, James City County, the Virginia Department of Veteran Services and the Williamsburg Chapter of the DAR.
*Veterans Park is also home of Kidsburg.
