Mark Jamison Selected as Police Chief

Police Chief Mark Jamison

Mark Jamison has been selected as James City County’s new police chief, effective July 1, 2023.

Chief Jamison has been with the Lynchburg Police Department since 1997, having been promoted through the ranks to serve as Deputy Chief of the Field Operations Bureau.

Chief Jamison earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Government from Liberty University and a Master of Science degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice from Longwood University. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police and numerous leadership courses. He serves on the Crime Prevention Committee for the International Associations of Chiefs of Police and the Training Committee for the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police.

“Mr. Jamison brings a wealth of experience and exemplary public service to James City County,” said County Administrator Scott Stevens. “I am very optimistic that he will bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to help the department move forward. I want to express my appreciation for Interim Chief Tony Dallman and commend him for the extraordinary effort over the past six months in moving the department in a positive direction, despite challenges and staffing shortages. Finally, I would like to thank the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police for conducting the recruitment and interview process that resulted in the eventual selection of Chief Jamison.”

"I am excited to be chosen as the next chief of police for the James City County Police Department," said Chief Jamison. "I’m honored to lead this dedicated team of law enforcement professionals, and I look forward to collaborating with the citizens and County leaders as we continue to achieve a quality community."
