On July 7, 2023, at approximately 8:20 p.m., the James City County Police provided mutual aid to the U.S. Park Rangers in response to two motorcycle crashes that occurred simultaneously on the Colonial Parkway. Upon arrival at the scene and with witness corroboration, it was determined that two solo-riding motorcyclists within a group of eight entered a turn at high speeds, exited the roadway, and crashed into a wooded area. The group of riders traveled from York County to James City County on the Colonial Parkway; prior to the accidents, multiple witnesses on the roadway reported reckless driving by motorcyclists.
Both motorcyclists crashed their respective motorcycles and required immediate medical attention. The first motorist, Quentin Perkins, a 20-year-old active-duty U.S. Navy service member from New Jersey, was pronounced deceased at the scene by James City County Medics. Next of kin was promptly notified.
The second motorist sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Riverside Regional Hospital for treatment.
Initial findings indicate that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the crashes. The Colonial Parkway near the Jamestown Settlement remained closed for approximately three hours after the incident. The crashes are still under investigation at this time.
