On Aug. 28, 2023, at approximately 4:10 p.m., the James City County Police and Fire Departments responded to a single-vehicle accident on Forge Road between Diascund Road and Brickyard Road. Upon arrival at the scene, the initial assessment determined that a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado exited the roadway and crashed into a tree.
The driver, Gordon Monroe Ivey III, a 30-year-old resident of James City County, was unresponsive and required immediate medical attention. Both police and medical personnel performed CPR and life-saving measures, and Ivey III was declared deceased at the scene by James City County Medics. Next of kin was promptly notified.
Initial findings indicate that weather conditions played a factor in this crash. Forge Road, the primary roadway to access the Chickahominy Haven Community, remained closed for approximately three hours after the incident. The crash is still under investigation at this time.
