Barbara Haynes was located in the Ford’s Colony neighborhood with the collaborative efforts of James City County Police and Ford’s Colony Security around 12:45 a.m. on Dec. 9. Police ensured her safe return home.


 Original News Release:

The James City County Police Department is urgently seeking the public's assistance in locating Barbara Haynes, an 88-year-old resident of James City County. Reported missing at 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 8, Mrs. Haynes is considered missing and endangered due to health-related concerns.

Mrs. Haynes reportedly left her residence in Heritage Pointe at 6:30 p.m. to pick up food from Rocco’s Smokehouse Grill on Bypass Road but failed to return home, prompting concerns for her safety. Mrs. Haynes has a documented history of memory impairment and early-stage dementia, and she does not currently take medication for these conditions. Previous incidents of her going missing have been linked to these health factors.

Haynes departed her residence alone in a red 2015 Toyota RAV4 bearing VA license plate DFH32. The vehicle was observed on a Flock camera at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Warwick Blvd in Newport News by the Ferguson Center for the Arts but has not been located since. Mrs. Haynes is described as a Black female, approximately 5’8" tall, weighing 150 lbs, with brown eyes, and wearing a black/gray short and straight-haired wig. Her attire at the time of departure is unknown. A photograph of Barbara Haynes has been provided for identification purposes.

Due to her age, history of missing incidents, and medical concerns, Barbara Haynes is considered endangered. If you have information regarding Mrs. Haynes’s whereabouts, immediately contact 911 or dispatch at 757-566-0112.
