Renovation work at the James City County Recreation Center continues on schedule. The overall project includes demolition and restoration of the locker rooms, catering kitchen and floor work. The project, which began Sept. 18, is anticipated to be completed in 15 weeks. The projects are part of the County’s Capital Improvement Project program and planning for the project has been in place for several years. Specific construction dates are determined by a variety of factors and are communicated upon our notification. The following areas are affected: ●Locker Rooms – Family, Women’s and Men’s: The locker rooms are receiving new epoxy flooring, wall tiles, partitions, benches and mirrors. The project is required to improve patron safety and upgrade and maintain the life span of the facility area. ●Catering Kitchen: The community wing is being renovated to meet all local health code requirements with new flooring, cabinets, sinks, appliances, electrical and lighting. ● Floor Work: The flooring from the community room hallways through the senior lounge area will be replaced to ensure patron safety.
Project Completion Status ● Family Locker Room – repairs in the Family Locker Room have been completed. However, repairs in the Men’s Locker Room are underway. While these repairs are being made, the Family Locker Room will serve as the Men’s Locker Room. ● Women’s Locker Room – repairs have been completed except for the installation of more hooks in the shower stalls. ● Men’s Locker Room – the renovation project began Nov. 28 with an anticipated five-week completion timeline. Men should use the Family Locker Room during this period of the closure. ● Catering Kitchen – progress continues with new flooring, counter tops, a backsplash and appliances being installed. Work is expected to be completed in early January.
● Floor Work: The floor work renovation project – affecting flooring from the community room hallways through the senior lounge – has been completed.
PLEASE NOTE: Space is limited in the Family Locker Room - there are three showers and one restroom. To minimize disruption and wait times, we encourage you to come dressed to work out and shower at home when possible. Additional restrooms are available off the lobby and upstairs and additional lockers can be found in the gym lobby to help during this time.
