Movies Under the Stars, Free!

Enjoy this great box office title out under the stars! Bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks. All ages welcome. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Movie subject to change. Scheduled feature is Minions (PG). Weather permitting.

Freedom Stories (all ages), Free!

Join Williamsburg native Dylan Pritchett, best known as ‘The Storyteller’ along with other Virginia Black Storytellers (VirBS) as they share with you Freedom Stories at Freedom Park! The Free Black Settlement area is the backdrop for this special event. Also featured are unique crafts for kids, music and food available for purchase.

Chickahominy Riverfront Park (CRP)
Join us for this annual self-guided bicycle tour! Choose from a family ride (ride as little or as much as you’d like), 15 miles, 30 miles or the Half Century ride (50 miles)! The 50 mile ride includes visits to Mid County Park, Powhatan Creek Trail, Freedom Park, Little Creek Reservoir Park and Upper County Park. Cool off after your ride with a dip in the CRP pool. Fee includes refreshments, pool admittance, maps, support vehicles to help out tired riders and lunch! Registration forms are available at local bike shops, at the James City County Recreation Center, the Freedom Park Interpretive Center, Satellite Services Office in Toano or online at Registration is also accepted onsite. Offered in partnership with Williamsburg Area Bicyclists. Weather permitting.

Family Splash Party, Free!

Offered in collaboration with the Preschool Literacy Project! Free for families with preschoolers who live in the Grove area! Come with your preschooler and ENJOYstory time with volunteers who’ll read fantastic books, EXPLORE the pictures and words in the books, ENJOY singing and moving to music, and ENGAGE in games and hands-on activities related to the book. Discover the Beauty Inside (girls ages 11-14)

Diabetes Risk Assessment Screening & Blood Pressure Check, Free!

Are you on the path to diabetes? Drop by to take the Risk Assessment (paper test) and speak with the Sentara nurse. No blood test. This assessment is based on risk factors, controllable and uncontrollable. No registration required.

Fit Mama – Stroller Fit (all ages)

Want to get out of the house, do something fun, active and healthy for yourself and your child AND meet a group of amazing moms in your own town?! Get a great 60 minutes of exercise using your own body weight, bands and balls as well as our outdoor walking trail! Class ends at the My Place Playground for your tots to play. Pre and postnatal workout for all levels. Jogging stroller not necessary. Bring water and a yoga mat or towel.

Work with flowers and vegetables in raised beds in Freedom Park’s Botanical Garden and enjoy other programs featuring plants, birds, butterflies and insects. Interested in learning the basics of canoeing – from finding the front of the boat to efficient paddling techniques and what to do if you or another vessel tips over! Join us on a walk through Freedom Park on the last Saturday of each month to learn about birds, plants, butterflies and anything else we might see! Each month will focus on a different topic led by a local expert. Participants are encouraged to bring water, sunscreen, binoculars and appropriate footwear. Meet at the Freedom Park Interpretive Center.

Interpretive Paddles (ages 18+)

Sunflowers, a Native American Beauty (ages 18+)
Saturday, July 16,10-11:30 a.m.
Freedom Park
Learn about the history, cultivation and beauty of the sunflower. The program presenter is James City County native, lawyer and gardener Andy Bradshaw who has grown at least 28 varieties of sunflowers, plus many other flowers,
