[ARCHIVED] Dedication for Norge Depot Historic Highway Marker

JCC logo

Members of the James City County Historical Commission, the Norge Depot Association, County officials and a representative of the Virginia Department of Historic Resources will dedicate a new historic highway marker on Saturday, Sept. 10. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the Norge Hall located at 7402 Richmond Road. The marker commemorates the Norge Depot, which was built at the end of Peach Street in the late 19th century by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad Company. The Depot opened opportunities for shipping agricultural products and transporting passengers. Norwegian-born Carl M. Bergh saw the potential for a new community populated by Norwegian immigrants, who might be willing to relocate to take advantage of available farmland. The Depot was moved to its current location adjacent to the James City County Library in 2006 when faced with demolition. The Depot has since been restored and is open to the public. Interested members of the public are welcome to attend the marker dedication ceremony.
