[ARCHIVED] Clean County Commission Monthly Recap

Clean County Commission at WM Sustainability Fair

Congratulations to the following Fall 2016 Good Neighbor Environment Grant neighborhood recipients:

Berkeley's Green, Braemar Creek, Chickahominy Community Improvement Organization, Colonial Heritage, Elmwood, Fairway Villas, Fernbrook, Page Landing, Seasons Trace and Stonehouse. Projects include entryway beautification, shade tree plantings, construction of a wildflower meadow, pond beautification, trail improvements, cleanups and a green building project in a common area. We look forward to seeing the results of their efforts as community volunteers donate their time and abilities to improve our neighborhoods and protect the natural environment.

The Clean County Commission is preparing for their 3rd Annual Litter & Recycling Expo to be held at the Warhill Sports Complex next to the concessions building next to the Soccer and turf fields on Oct. 22 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Displays promoting the Parks Recycling Plan and other litter and recycling outreach and education initiatives will be on display. Children of all ages will enjoy several interactive activities, giveaways and special guests.

On Aug, 30, the Commission represented James City County at the William & Mary Committee on Sustainability Fair at the Sunken Gardens to promote James City County litter and recycling programs.

Five Brothers Pancake & Steakhouse in Lightfoot received the Quarterly Clean Business Award. A presentation titled “James City County Beautification from the Roots" was presented by Matt Austin, JCC Parks & Grounds Superintendent. Attendees were surprised to learn just how much work is accomplished with surprisingly few staff members in order to beautifully maintain our many James City County government properties and parks.

Residents should be reminded that all James City County curbside recycling questions can be answered at 757-259-4850 by the Virginia Peninsula Public Service Authority. All questions regarding solid waste should be directed to the James City County Solid Waste Office at 757-565-0971.

Meetings are generally held on the first Thursday of every month. For more information contact the Environmental Coordinator at 757-259-5375 or email
