[ARCHIVED] Ron Boyd and Mike Kelly Receive Captain John Smith Award

The James City County Board of Supervisors and Economic Development Authority recognized Ron Boyd and Mike Kelly, founders of Williamsburg Environment Group, Inc., as this year’s recipient of the Captain John Smith Award during the 23rd Annual Celebration of Business. The annual award is presented by the County’s economic development team to a business, organization or individual for exemplary contributions in the business community.

Boyd and Kelly began Williamsburg Environmental Group, Inc. (WEG) as a small-start up in their garage in 1990 and over the years the company grew into a successful firm employing almost 100 employees with corporate offices in New Town and branch offices in Richmond and Fredericksburg. WEG, Inc. eventually attracted the attention of the international company, Stantec, Inc. and a merger was completed in 2014. “James City County is a great place to grow a business and a great place to raise a family” said Boyd as he accepted the Captain John Smith Award. “The success of WEG, Inc. is a testament to the hard work and efforts displayed by these gentlemen,” said Russell Seymour, Director of Economic Development. “We are indeed proud of their success and choice of James City County.”

The Celebration of Business is an appreciation event for existing companies in James City County. The event was held on Oct. 27 in the Jamestown Settlement’s Rotunda and Great Hall.
